Who Values mode is for
Many people want their money to match what they believe. The reason can be faith, recovery, family or personal ethics. Values mode does not assume any one tradition. You set the rules in your own terms, and Vueni applies them.
Guardrails you can choose
A guardrail is a category your money never touches. You can choose from:
Gambling
Alcohol
Tobacco
Adult content
You can turn on one guardrail or all of them.
How the gambling block works
Gambling has two layers of protection.
Declined at the card
The card program’s default rules decline gambling merchant categories at authorization, on every Vueni Card. This covers merchants that code themselves as sportsbooks, casinos and lotteries. The purchase does not go through.
Detected after the purchase
Some gambling sites code themselves differently. Sweepstakes casinos, for example, often code as games. The card program sees a game purchase, so the charge goes through. Vueni recognizes these merchants after the charge. It can then pause your card and tell you why.
For example, a member tries to place a $100 bet with a sportsbook at 1 AM. The card declines it. Later in the week, they spend $60 at a sweepstakes casino that codes as a game. That charge goes through. Vueni spots it after the purchase and pauses the card.
Making the block hard to undo
A block you can switch off in a weak moment does not protect much, so switching the gambling block off takes seven days. If you change your mind during that time, the block stays.
You can also add an accountability partner. This is someone you trust who can hear from Vueni when a guardrail is tested.
Other guardrails
Alcohol, tobacco and adult content are detected after the purchase, like sweepstakes casinos. Vueni detects these purchases after they go through, then it can pause your card. The purchase itself is not declined at the card. Switching these guardrails off also comes with a waiting period.
Interest-free savings
Some people prefer not to earn interest on their savings. In Values mode, you can keep your balance interest-free.
Giving rules
Many people give a set share of what they have. Values mode lets you pick a rule:
A share of income. For example, a tenth of what you earn.
A share of savings. For example, 2.5% of savings above a threshold you choose.
Your own number. A fixed or custom amount.
Vueni works out the figure from your activity and shows its working. You can see which income or savings it counted and how it got to the total.
Rules that come from a religious practice vary from one community to the next. So Vueni presents every giving figure as an estimate. Confirm it with your own advisor before you rely on it.
