Key points
The Vueni stress score is a number from 0 to 100 for one purchase, measured against your own baseline.
The score is a sum of visible signals, and every point shows its reason.
Body signals such as sleep and heart rate variability only count if you connect Apple Health, and they are compared with your own usual.
Context signals never mark essentials such as groceries, fuel or pharmacy purchases as stress.
A high score leads to a suggestion, such as a lower card limit until morning, which you can take or turn down.
What the score measures
The score belongs to one purchase. It does not grade you as a person. It asks one question: does the moment around this purchase look like your hard days?
Vueni looks at two kinds of signal. Some come from your card activity: the time of day, the category, how many orders came just before, and whether you returned things to this merchant before. Others come from your body, if you connect Apple Health: sleep, heart rate variability (HRV) and resting heart rate.
Body signals are always compared with your own usual. A short night for you is short against your normal sleep, not against anyone else.
A worked example
Take an example member, not a real person. At 11:48 PM on a Sunday, they order $128 of clothes from Everlane. Vueni gives the purchase a stress score of 83 out of 100. Seven lines add up to that total:
Late night | +18 |
Short sleep | +16 |
HRV down | +16 |
Buying fast | +10 |
Impulse category | +10 |
Returned here before | +8 |
Resting heart rate up | +5 |
Stress score | 83 of 100 |
Add the lines and you get 83. There is no hidden step between the lines and the total.
Why the score is a simple sum
We built the score as a sum on purpose. A number you cannot explain feels like judgment. A number with its working shown is something you can check.
If one line looks wrong to you, you can see which one. Maybe you slept badly because of a late flight, not stress. The line shows what Vueni saw. What it means is your call.
How strong each signal can be
Some signals come in two strengths. A purchase after 9 PM counts as late evening and adds fewer points than one after 11 PM. A small sleep shortfall adds fewer points than a large one. The same is true for HRV and resting heart rate.
Buying fast grows as orders stack up. A second discretionary order in 24 hours adds a little. A third or fourth adds more.
Two more lines can appear. Bigger than usual shows when a purchase is much larger than your typical spend in that category. Comfort purchase shows for food, drink and delivery orders, and it adds fewer points than an impulse category.
What the score leaves out
Some things never count:
Essentials. Time of day and body signals never mark groceries, fuel, transit, utilities, pharmacy or medical purchases as stress.
Small purchases. Context counts for less on small tickets. A hard morning should not turn a coffee into a warning.
Old health data. Body signals only count when they are recent enough to describe that moment.
Missing data. If you do not connect Apple Health, the score uses card signals only. It still works.
The score is not a medical measure. It does not diagnose anything. It describes the context of a purchase, nothing more.
What the levels mean
Vueni groups scores into three levels. Below 35 is calm. From 35 to 59 is elevated. From 60 up is high.
An elevated score can bring a light check-in, such as a note that today looks heavier than usual. A high score can bring a Smart Nudge. In the example above, the Smart Nudge suggests a $125 per-purchase limit until 8 AM. Vueni sizes that limit from the member’s own essential purchases, so groceries still go through. The member can take it or say not tonight.
From one score to a pattern
One score describes one moment. Over weeks, Vueni looks for patterns in the scores. The example member has a Sunday nights pattern: 6 stressed purchases across 4 weeks, most of them late-night clothing orders.
When Vueni sees a pattern like that, Calm Mode can offer help before the hard night starts.
Where the health signals come from
Vueni reads body signals through Apple Health on your iPhone. That includes data from an Apple Watch, which writes all three signals. It also includes WHOOP, which can sync sleep and resting heart rate into Apple Health, and Oura, which can sync sleep. Vueni uses the signals your device provides and leaves any missing signal out of the score.
The signals are computed on your iPhone. Vueni receives a derived score, never raw health records. Vueni never uses health data for credit, underwriting or advertising.

Questions
Does a high stress score block my purchase?
No. The score describes a purchase that already happened. A high score can lead to a Smart Nudge, such as a lower per-purchase limit until morning, and you decide whether to take it.
Can the stress score work without a smartwatch or ring?
Yes. Without Apple Health, the score uses card signals only: time of day, category, how fast you are buying, purchase size and past returns to that merchant.
Is my stress score compared with other people?
No. Body signals are measured against your own baseline, and amounts are compared with your own typical spending in that category.
